CORNHOLE SAVED MY LIFE; Crew neck TEE - Red

$ 22.00

It was 1978 and my friend Marc and I were hitchhiking from Huron to Rapid City, South Dakota. It was one of our early adventures in hitching rides to get somewhere.  We intended to head for a friend's place in Rapid City that day to play a new game called Bags that he had discovered on a recent trip to Chicago.

We were pretty delighted to catch a ride just outside Wolsey, SD  with a single guy in his late 30's headed all the way to Rapid City. We quickly established an easy repartee with this guy and settled back for the six-hour trip to Rapid. We were just past Pierre when he asked if we wanted to smoke a joint with him. We weren't those kinds of kids (at the time) and politely turned him down. When our driver asked if we minded if he smoked the joint on his own, we agreed that he should. I mean, his car, his pot, his impulse, right?

Our driving partner then proceeded to intermittently smoke his joint for the next 200 miles. Outwardly, he seemed fine and our conversations continued all the way to downtown Rapid City, where we jumped out and thanked him for the ride.

That day, we learned the game of Bags, or Bean Bags or Cornhole as it was called in some circles. We played both singles and doubles and had a great time with the game, which I then promptly forgot about for roughly 30 years until I went to a lawn party in a friend's backyard in Sioux Falls and was re-acquainted with Cornhole.

So how did Cornhole save my life? Months later we bumped into our friendly driver in a supermarket in Huron, and got to talking. It was then that he shared with us how lucky we were. It seems that only minutes after we departed his car, he ran into a concrete bridge abutment leaving Rapid City and literally tore off the side of the car we'd been sitting in. Yikes!

You'll have your own Cornhole stories, I'm sure, but thanks for reading mine. Every time I put on this great little shirt, I think of that trip, cuz Cornhole saved my life.

Available in colorful tees in various colors in sizes X-Small to 3XL. Get yours and get one for whoever's driving the car.
