Iowa By the Numbers; Short Sleeve
For a major chunk of the 20th century, license plates in Iowa and several other states featured a number that identified the county of origin. This was no small thing, because for plenty of Iowans that number was closely tied to their identity. Folks took pride in that number and took pride in knowing what numbers were tied to other counties, neighboring or otherwise.
We don't know why they stopped putting those county identifiers on license plates. Whatever the case, we think a shirt that honors that tradition is a winner. The design is by Marlo J. Arp, owner of Inwood Trading Post in County #60. To know Marlo is to love her and her store, filled with a little bit of everything. Marlo is good people, and she's a fine artist and graphic designer, great teacher and retail raconteur, the owner of a high energy countenance and a gut-busting laugh. We're proud to put her design on one of our shirts.
